April is National Kite Month. It's a time to celebrate the joy of kite flying and share this activity with others. The first day of National Kite Month is April 2, 2025. Here's why April is a great time to celebrate kite flying: Springtime Celebrations April marks the beginning of spring, when weather conditions are often more suitable for kite flying. Edgewood Elementary School art students learned about weather forecasts and how weather affects their kite-flying success. Edgewood Elementary School art teacher Ms. McDonald demonstrated the project by assembling a kite and showing the students how each part works. The art students designed their kites using polyester fabric, watercolor markers, paintbrushes, and water. Ms. McDonald encouraged the students to create beautiful kite designs as a collaborative project. Students anxiously took their kites outside during art class the following week and began kite-flying lessons. The art class enjoyed this project by learning how functional art, science, and GT (Gifted and Talented) design standards work together to create fun outdoor activities.

Dear Parents and Guardians, Earlier this morning, the district administration was made aware of a single case of Pertussis (Whooping Cough) affecting our high school community only. At this time, we are actively monitoring the situation, operating as normal, and taking all necessary precautions to ensure the safety and well-being of our students, staff, and families. The district administration is working closely with the Arkansas Department of Health to assess the situation and implement appropriate health and safety protocols. This collaboration allows us to make informed decisions guided by public health expertise. While we understand that this may cause concern, please know that we are committed to maintaining a safe learning environment. We will continue to provide timely updates as more information becomes available and will notify you immediately of any changes that may impact school operations. In the meantime, we encourage everyone to continue practicing healthy habits, including frequent handwashing, staying home when feeling unwell, and following any guidance provided by healthcare professionals. We appreciate your continued support and cooperation as we navigate this situation together. Sincerely, Dr. Keith McGee Superintendent of Schools
